The Origins of the MLPOA
The MLPOA has a long and colourful history...
The organization began as an adhoc, grassroots gathering of cottagers in the 1960's, when a group of cottagers formed a coalition to promote the establishment of proper sewage treatment from the town of Madoc. This group was called the "Moira Cottagers for Clean Water".
Membership was $3.00 and there were 11 members, initially primarily property owners located what is now called Zone 6A. One of the key founding members was Reverend Douglas C Jay, Ph.D, OC, now deceased.
In 1984 there were 130 members and dues were raised to $5.00. The Constitution was adopted in 1986, and the Association was incorporated in 1993. The Constitution was last revised in 2006,and recently amended in 2024..
